Headteacher's Welcome

Dear pupils; parents; families and friends,

May I take this opportunity to welcome you all back to Manor Lodge Community Primary School and Nursery. I do hope you all had a good break and are feeling ready for the academic year ahead. For those families joining us for the first time, we can’t wait to meet you and welcome you to the family that is Manor Lodge. I’m confident that 2019/20 will be filled with fantastic learning opportunities and other great experiences for our pupils to take part in.

There is something very special about Manor Lodge. We are incredibly proud of our unique children and supportive parents. Myself; staff and our Governors  all work together to make Manor Lodge a safe, happy and fun place to learn but it is your children that bring the magic alive and we thank you for all that you have done over the last year.

We have further exciting developments ahead of us this year too:

  • A special partnership with the Sheffield Music Hub.

Manor Lodge has a musical heartbeat. Many of our former pupils have gone on to furthering talent development schemes, be that with their voices or instruments that our association with the Music has grown to capture this momentum. Stay tuned for further parental involvement and concerts through the year.

  •  Primary Engineers Programme.

We are very pleased to announce that we shall be taking part in this programme in conjunction with the University of Sheffield and the AMRC (Advanced Materials Research Centre) to promote STEM (science; technology; engineering and maths) with our pupils.

  • Inter-school times- tables competitions. Last year we were runners up in the S2 inter-school quarter finals. ‘Come on Manor Lodge; we can win this!’
  • Continued relationships with Sheffield United Community Foundation and the Premier League All Stars initiative
  • Our partnership with ‘Links’ sporting programme saw pupils win competitions against other schools in the community and try cycling speedway and decathlon games. We were silver medallists in the Panathlon Games in 2019!
  • Our children take part in a Mentoring programme with secondary school pupils and University students to broaden their experiences of the next stages of education and possibilities of what they can achieve in their future developments.

Other exciting opportunities this year include:

  1. After-school football clubs
  2. A school choir
  3. Sir Scallywagg musical for our Y1 pupils
  4. Residential trips for our KS2 pupils
  5. Meeting Authors/100% attendance parties at the Town Hall
  6. A Y5 festival of swimming and much, much more!

We have high standards at the heart of all we do. Our Manor Lodge 10 learning behaviours are intertwined through our curricular areas. Not only do we want the children to develop the knowledge and skills across a rich curriculum, we also want to develop citizens of the future. We are proud of our diverse community and want to ensure that we tackle social inequalities wherever we can: teachers will always use a diverse range of literature; champion inspiration for our children through women who have pioneered achievements in society and we will also ensure that our local area is celebrated and its history and geography is utilised to make our community at the forefront of our minds.

For our parents, we will be running a series of coffee mornings through each half-term led by the Nurse/practitioners from the local Doctors’ Surgery (Dovercourt). The main themes this year will include:

  1. Sleep
  2. Eating
  3. Anxiety Management
  4. Family Health and
  5. Screening

Our Learning Mentor (Kay Allison) will provide more details as the year unfolds.

We encourage all our children to achieve the best they can be across every area of school and we also insist on taking pride in their appearance. Please abide by our uniform policy. Our admin team and receptionists can support you with any queries you may have.

Finally, please ensure that your child attends every day. Attendance and punctuality is vital for your child’s development. If you have any concerns, please contact Mrs S. Hoyland our attendance and welfare officer.

Thank you, in anticipation, for another year of your support. It really is our families that make all the difference to our wonderful school,

Kind Regards,

Mr B Cuff
