Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Pupils; Parents; Carers Families and Friends,

On behalf of Manor Lodge Community Primary School and Nursery’s governors and staff, we’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to the start of the academic year 2021- 2022.

For some of you, it will be the first experience of Manor Lodge. For others, it will be a continuation in your child’s learning journey. Either way, we promise to work hard and make the school's curriculum and wider experiences as enjoyable; challenging and as accessible for each and every child.

The teaching and learning staff, here at Manor Lodge, work tirelessly to sequence your child’s learning. By making the skills and knowledge progressive, your child’s knowledge and skills will grow term after term; year after year.

We take pride in the fact that we didn’t (or haven’t) reduced our curriculum during the pandemic: we offered all subjects remotely – or when children were in provision. We believe that all the subjects we offer will form the scaffolding of a life long love of learning so that your child continues to flourish at each stage of their educational journey.

We encourage all our parents to talk about the learning with their child at the end of school. Ask your child: ‘what did you learn today?’ This will help them to reflect about what they absorbed during lessons. It is probably one of the best homework activities you can do. You never know where the conversation might take you!  It is a ‘better’ question to ask than: ‘what did you do at school today?’ It’d be great if you can help us achieve this by using this simple conversation starter.

All the staff at Manor Lodge take great pride in being visible and accessible each and every morning and at the end of the school day. Please do come and chat to us if you have any questions or information you’d like to share.  We also use a remote learning platform called, Class Dojo. Most of you will have this set up from the previous year but for all new parents, please do speak to your teacher if you’d like support with this. It’s another way to communicate with you and share class stories or learning that’s going on throughout the year.

As a school, we decided to extend our school day from September 2021. If you have a single child at school, their new time will now be from 8:35am until 3:05pm. If you have children with brothers or sisters at school, their new time will be 8:45am until 3:15pm. We’d ask that you to be prompt (and on time) for the above arriving 5 minutes before each start time. This way we can start the learning promptly helping us to make the most of all the exciting opportunities on offer.

Our breakfast club starts at 8:00am and after school club runs until 5:30pm. Please contact the office for information on how to reserve a place.

We take pride in the children wearing their uniform to school. Please ensure that your child is presented in full uniform each day. This year we were excited to offer all children a free PE top with their initials on it. Mr Fletcher, our PE Co-ordinator, is the main contact for this should you require any further information. If your child is in Y1 – Y6 please come in your PE kit on the designated days. If your child is in Reception, your teacher will let you know what to bring and wear on those days.

September will also see the start of building works for our new Integrated Resource. This is an exciting development to support children (and families) from Foundation Stage to Year 2 with ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) and Social Communication delays. We’re very excited about these families joining us and becoming a part of the Manor Lodge Team.  If you have any questions regarding the integrated resource, please get in touch with the office and ask to speak to myself or Steve Lo (Sendco).

We are very much looking forward to seeing you all in September,

Best Wishes,

Mr B Cuff
