Hi Stars and Rainbows, we hope you have had a lovely weekend. We are really looking forward to seeing you all again soon, we are going to set some more activities on here this week for you to do your learning at home with your grown ups. Monday 30th November

Music

Our topic this half term is Maps & Journeys. We have been looking at journeys through the story Little Red Riding Hood, so your child should be able to tell you all about Little Red Riding Hood’s journey to Grandma’s cottage! The National Oak Academy have some brilliant videos on their website, all around the theme Journeys and Adventures. Have a listen to some of the interactive songs, and get involved here:

Handwriting

For your handwriting please check the letter formation video. Please work on forming the letter ‘p’ today. What letter is this? What sound does it make? Can you remember what the action for the ‘p’ sound is?

Phonics

Please practice reading your tricky words from your book bag today. Remember to keep practicing them, they will need repeating so you do not forget them. When you are confident with reading them can you have a go at writing the tricky words?

Literacy

This week, we are going to look at the story Whatever Next.

What did Baby Bear use to make his rocket?

What did he take with him?

What did he do when he got to the moon?

Why did Baby Bear get wet and dirty?

Maths

Today can you practice ordering numbers 1-10 then 1-20. You should have some number cards in your paper home learning pack, or you can just write them down on paper.

Bud’s Number garden is all in the wrong order! Can you put his flower beds in the right order on this game?

Challenge..can you play this game with your grown up? ‘I’m thinking of a number’, give some clues ‘the number is bigger/ more than 6 but smaller/ less than 10’, the next clue could be ‘it is the number that is one more than 8/ it is the number that is between 8 and 10’.

Tuesday 1st December

For your handwriting please check the letter formation video. Please work on forming the letter ‘i’ today. What letter is this? What sound does it make? Can you remember what the action for the ‘i’ sound is?

What does a capital i make? It’s one of our tricky words I! Can you practice writing I and the lower case i? Can you find the word I in a story today?

Literacy

Can you retell the story Whatever Next?

What would you take to the moon? Can you find some objects at home to act out going on a journey to the moon?

Maths

Today can you lay out your number cards from your paper learning pack 1-20. Practice counting and pointing to each number as you read it. Get a soft toy or figure and show that it lands on a number. Which number is this? Can you say the number out loud and practice saying one more than that given number. Remember if we are finding one more- the number will always be getting bigger, and we jump one place to the right.

If you are confident with numbers without using a numberline/ laying out your numbers in order:

Challenge..can you turn all your number cards face down and mixed up. Take it in turns with a grown up to turn over a card and say one more than this number.

In our story Whatever Next, baby bear goes to the moon. Can you write a list of things you would take with you to the moon? Remember to say the word out loud and listen carefully for what the sound begins with. Use this sound mat to help find the sound your word begins with if you do not already know it:

Have a go at writing the first letter. Say your word out loud again- what other sounds can you hear?

Make a list writing one word under the other.

Maths

Today we are going to look at adding. Can you find 10 objects, toys or pictures you can use to help you. Roll a dice or choose a number card- whatever this number is count out that many objects.

Put them to one side. Roll the dice or choose another number card (to 5) and count out this many, place them in two groups like this:

Add the two amounts together and say the number sentence out loud first: “4 add 2 equals 6”.

Can you think about what it would be like on the moon? Find your favourite bear or teddy, and draw a picture of you with them on the moon. What can you see? Tell your grown up what it is like there and then write down some things you might find on the moon.

Can you make a rocket with some materials you have at home?

Maths

Today we are going to be looking at subtraction (taking away). Can you find 10 objects, toys or pictures you can use to help. Count out 5 objects and put them altogether. Can you take away a number (0-5) and count how many you have left.

With my 5 objects, if I take away 3 I have 2 left.

Practice with your grown up asking them to take away different amounts. How many are left?

Remember the number will always be getting smaller.

Today can you continue practicing taking away. Use different toys and objects to help, and practice with your grown up asking them to take away different amounts. How many are left? Remember the number will always be getting smaller.
