Hello Y1 and Y2, we hope you are all safe and well.   Some of you are coming back into school now,  but we still need to keep the home learning going for those of you at home.  We love looking at the work you are doing, it's amazing, keep it up.  Don't forget you can also send in pictures of your work to our e.mail at school, which is,   Please remember, in addition to the Manor Lodge website, to keep checking your Purple Mash and TT Rockstars.  Have a fantastic week everyone.



The Phonics Play website is free at the moment,  please log on to play on some of the activities to keep improving your phonics skills.  There is a login code and password on the home screen to enable access to the site.  Once logged on, go to Resources and click on any of the games.  Please click on the following link  Thank you





For this week's maths learning, please look at the activities on the White Rose Scheme.  We are now on Summer 2 - Week 8.


This week's maths is all about shape, 2D and 3D.  Follow the links below for each lesson.  These can be printed out to work on, or write your answers out on plain paper.  Can you show your work to a parent or carer ?  Maybe you could work on them together.

There is a video explaining the task and learning. For each lesson, there are a set of questions and answers. You can write the answers down, or tell the answer to a grown up or sibling. After you have done all of the questions, check the answers to see if you were correct.

The book we have chosen for this week is 'Polly and the Sock Beast'.  If you do not have the book you can see and hear it by following this link -


Task 1 -  Can you make a list of Superpowers that Polly gets with her different coloured hair (red, blue,

               white and green).

Task 2 -  Write a character description for the Beast, was he really scary or not ?

Task 3 -  Rewrite the story with a different type of hair colour for Polly.   What could be happening to

               her ?

Task 4 - Write a letter to the Beast and offer to help him ?  Can you draw a picture of brightly coloured

              socks on your letter ?

Task 5 -  Draw and label a Beast of your own, use describing words for example, big, small, sharp, smelly, 



Remember to:-

  • Write sentences using capital letters and full stops
  •  Write sentences using capital letters, question mark and full stops
  •  Write sentences using a range of conjunctions to extend the sentences such as ‘and’ and ‘because’.
  •  To use your phonics to help spell words
  •  Practise your handwriting and make the letters clear, same size and neat. 
  •  Use commas in a list when needed

Task 1- Can you retell the story to your grown up? What kind of character is Traction Man? Who else is in the story? Can you tell the story from Traction Man’s point of view? Can you draw and label the characters?


Task 2- Imagine you are Traction Man. Can you play hotseat with some members of your family? One person sit on a chair and act in character of Traction Man, others can ask ‘Traction Man’ any questions about his adventures.


Task 3-   Traction Man uses everyday household objects to carry out his adventures.  Think of other objects and make a list of ways that Traction Man could use them .... or ways that they could cause a problem for him. This can be done a paper and sent to us at:


Task 4- Traction Man has a pet scrubbing brush in the story. Use your imagination and write a set of instructions telling people how they can take care of a pet scrubbing brush. Don’t forget to number each instruction and begin with first, next, then… This can be done a paper and sent to us at:


Task 5-  At the end of the story, and evil pair of scissors is approaching Traction Man and Scrubbing Brush.  Can you write about what happens next ?  This can be done on paper or on purple mash here:


Continue to read books that match your book band level using this link. After reading the book, answer the questions with a grown up.

Please also read, on Purple Mash, 'Charlie and the Camper Van', and complete the activities and quiz for every chapter:



  • Observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies. 
  • What time it goes dark ?  This is when the sun goes down.
  • Does the time is goes dark make a difference to how long it is daytime ?
  • Does the sun come up earlier or later during Summer ?
  • Can you draw or paint a picture of a beautiful sunset ?
