For science this week, we are going to look at the classification of animals. There are 5 different ways that we can class animals

  1. Mammals
  2. Reptiles
  3. Birds
  4. Amphibians
  5. Fish

There are different ways of identifying which group an animal belongs to. A mammal gives birth to live young, they have hair or fur, they are warm blooded and mammal mothers feed their babies with their own milk. Reptiles have scales, they are cold blooded and they usually lay eggs. Birds have feathers and wings, they are warm blooded and they lay eggs. Amphibians live on both land and water, they are cold blooded, they lay eggs, and they have webbed feet and moist skin.

Watch these educational videos to find out more information:

What are mammals?

What are amphibians?

What are birds?

What are fish?

What are reptiles?

After each video, there is a quiz. Can you complete the quiz to see how much you have learned?

Below is an activity to sort different animals into the correct classification.

Some of you have been getting really creative at home, and have sent in photos of what you have been making, these have been brilliant! If you have anything to share please email it to we would love to see.

Here is an activity for you to try this week. Can you make a paper snake?
