Letters and sounds

1.  The Three Billy Goats Gruff Story - using puppets

Make puppets by drawing the characters in the story or using the ones in your home learning pack. Cut out the pictures and stick them onto a pencil or lolly stick. With your grown up, and other members of the family if you like, use the puppets to act out the story. Remember to think about what happens at the beginning of the story, then what happens next, after that and at the end. Try to use sentences from the story – can you remember what the troll says?

2. The Three Billy Goats Gruff Story Sequencing

Put the pictures from the Billy Goats Gruff story in random order.Use the pictures you have in your home learning pack or make some of your own. Ask your child if they can find the picture which shows what happened at the beginning of the story. What happened next? Get your child to put the pictures in the correct order. Then ask them to have a go at telling the story in their own words by using the pictures to help. Encourage them to use story language eg : Once upon a time and the vocabulary from the story.

  1. To start the game you say: ‘I spy with my little eye something beginning with…’

  2. Then say the sound of the first letter of the object you have seen or ‘spied’ eg. ‘L’ for lamp or ‘S’ for socks. Make sure you say the sound eg D is duh (sound) not dee (the letter name)

  3. For example with ‘socks’ it might look like this:  I spy with my little eye something beginning with…S’
